
The first thing that strikes the visitors arriving in Egypt by plane is a great green land which twists and turns between the Arabian desert to the east and the Libyan desert to the west. Although the Nile is born in central Africa and its 1,200 km course through Egyptian territory is only one-fifth of its total length. Since ancient times the Nile has nurtured flourishing civilization along its banks.
Egypt is probably the world's oldest civilization having emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 years ago, historically.
When most people think of Egypt, they think of antiquities, Pyramids and Temples. Of course the Pharaoh's era that made Egypt famous and unique, but really Egypt is more than that. It is also Red Sea scuba diving, safari trip in western desert or Sinai, luxury hotels and five star restaurants. It is romantic cruises, and it is a cultural experience. Egypt is a land of excitement and beauty.
Geographical situation:
Egypt or (kemet) as it called in Pharaoh's time. Its borders stretch from the Mediterranean Sea in the North, to the borders of Sudan in the South, Libyan borders in the West and extend over the Sinai Peninsula to the borders of Palestine and Red Sea in the East.
The total area of Egypt is 1,001,449 km², 96% is desert and the remaining 4% is cultivated and inhabited.
Climate:
The desert climate predominates here, characterized by hot summer with temperatures often 30-45°C during daytime and 10-20°C in winter, the temperature is difference between day and night.
Currency:
The Egyptian pound (LE) is the official currency. One LE consists of 100 piasters. Bills of the Egyptian pounds are 1, 5, 10, 20, 50,100 and 200 pounds value and 25 and 50 piasters
